Located in the heart of downtown Worcester, First Unitarian is accessible by car from I-290, as shown in the maps below. Follow the dotted red lines from Exit 18 (if approaching from the East), or Exit 17 (from the West).

Parking is available in one of our two lots next to the church (upper and lower lots), as well as street parking and an additional small lot above our upper lot on State Street.

Map Notes:

  • The street names in and around the Lincoln Square area are very confusing. They are labelled correctly here by their official names, but the street names change unintuitively every block. Look carefully at "Concord," "Salisbury," "Tuckerman," and "Lincoln" Streets.
  • Lincoln Square underwent a topological facelift in April 1999, and access to First Unitarian is easier and more direct from Highland St (Rt 9) and "Salisbury St." (labelled Concord St) because of two-way access now.
  • Many maps available on the web use a database that is about 10 years old and does not reflect the street positioning and naming that currently surround the 1st U area.

Textual Directions

The church is next to the County Courthouse in Lincoln Square (Main Street at Highland), across from Wesley United Methodist Church, and across the street from Crowne Plaza Hotel, also near Worcester Memorial Auditorium.

  • From the North: Take I-90 South from Rt.2 to its junction with I-290, and go right (WEST) to Exit 18, (Lincoln Square, Rt 9).
    • [You can see the steeple in the distance from here.]  Bear right at the traffic lights at Lincoln St., immediately cross the Lincoln Square intersection onto Worcester Center Blvd. At the traffic light (on the left is Belmont Street, and on the right it is called Highland ), turn right onto Highland (Rt 9W), and immediately take a left onto Main St. at the next light.
    • Once on Main Street, pass the Court House and 1st U, and turn right onto State Street - Park on State St. or in one of the two church parking lots or additional area parking lots in the neighborhood.
  • From the North & East (& Boston): From I-495, take Exit 25B onto I-290 West. (Follow directions above for I-290 Exit 18.)
  • From the Southwest & South: Take I-90 (Mass Pike) or I-395 to Auburn (Exit 10). Get on I-290 east and go towards Worcester. Get off at Exit 17 (Belmont St.), go left onto Belmont (which then becomes Highland) to Lincoln Square, and follow the directions above onto Main Street.
