1st U Young Artist Initiative: Church Musician Intern Program
Memo of Understanding
It is with great excitement and anticipation that we welcome you to our 1st U Church Musician Intern Program. We are looking forward to a mutually beneficial relationship – we help your learn and gain experience in areas of Church Music (organ, choral, music program logistics) and you offer your talents and abilities to the church in various ways such as singing in the choir, playing in services, accompanying, assisting with logistics.
Although this is not a formal contract, it is a set of written expectations from each of our perspectives.
The Church will provide:
- Music instruction and mentoring, free to you.
- Experiences to participate in performances (and preparation thereof)
- Usage of church instruments for practice (when space is available)
The Intern will:
- Work/practice/rehearse diligently to prepare for lessons, accompanying, performances.
- Give their best efforts to coordinate schedules to be able to participate as fully as is reasonable—likely more opportunities will be available/offered than time would allow to take full advantage of, in which case, please communicate clearly.
- Approach the internship with a positive attitude and inquisitive mind, and support other interns when networking avails itself (i.e., participate with a team spirit)
The period of the program follows the church year: September through June, with continuation consideration each year.
If either party feels the need to dissolve the relationship, a courtesy of 30 days’ notice is requested.
